In the Fall of 1999, Channing accepted a full-time
faculty position at San Diego Miramar College. He
became a professor at age 26 and was fully tenured
at age 30. The first six years, he was the only full-time
professor of music on campus. Quickly developing the
music offerings and program, he started ensembles
and a digital music certificate program, training
students to become engineers, producers and composers.
His piano performance abilities we're quickly incorporated into local San Diego music groups including the Latin Jazz Trio Orchestra, Orquesta Primo, 13 de la Suerte, Orquesta La Cura, Yavaz, Kiko Cornejo, Gene Perry, Emilio Camacho y sus Rumberos and Big Time Operator. After twelve years, he has played in almost every jazz and latin club and music festival in San Diego, Los Angeles and Tijuana. He continues to play locally and abroad.
His compositions, arrangements and performancers have been recorded and published word-wide and his fan base stems from every corner of the globe.
His current and most exciting project to date is the Latin Jazz Trio Orchestra. A danceable Latin Jazz Trio rooted in authentic Latin rhythms mixed with Jazz improvisation and harmonies. Playing simultaneously piano montunos, bass pedal tumbaos (with his left foot), cowbell patterns (with his right foot) and singing, Chano is venturing into unknown Latin Jazz territory.
And his musical journey only continues to reveal
itself. A passion for life... expressed through musical
mediums
